ault
erosion
Project developed in partnership with the École Nationale Supérieure Paris Val de Seine
Ault Erosion is part of an investigation into the territorial transformations of the town of Ault, in the Picardy region of France, where the erosion of the cliffs — a result of the natural conditions of the soil and climate — has drastically reduced local tourism over the past few decades. Paradoxically, even with the loss of land to the sea, residents continue to be registered as owners of these plots, now transformed into a strip of beach.
From this paradox, the project proposes a critical and utopian reading of coastal occupation, exploring gaps in urban planning legislation to imagine possible temporary use interventions by the residents themselves. The proposals consider the natural dynamics of the tides, proposing sensitive and reversible occupations that reflect on belonging, memory, and the right to space in constant transformation.
